We regularly support a local engineering company, surveying maintenance equipment used on railways, which they precisely refurbish and re-align to meet stringent railway standards.
The equipment lifts and positions heavy sections of the rail line and distorts slightly over time and we help to detect any distortions, using a Trimble TX8 laser scanner.
Our 3D laser scanner captures millions of points over the structure allowing us to map it to a high degree of accuracy. A 3D model is produced and measurements are taken over the equipment to ascertain any movement outside the allowable prescribed tolerances. These results are then communicated to the engineers to allow precise machining to correct any distortion.
